fall 2011 part 2

Okay so last we talked I was still in new york, fiddling around with my new Ipad. Lots has happened since. I got the silly thing to work and have been talking to many of my loved ones ever since. But let’s start where I last left off. Sushi dinner with Mark on tuesday and another meet with the I-man on wednesday. Decided to go to the public library of NYC. Had never been there and seen it in many movies. This is one of those times where you actually pick out a few lovely places to go see, rather than go on yet another circle line tour or a tourist trap. I walked down there on 5th. Avenue…. but halfway found my old metro card. Hopped on the bus for a few more stops. the library building itself is a site to visit!!! Forget about the volumes and volumes of books stored there, or first editions in the basement, or old fashioned micro-fische department. Had a fantabulous time looking at the special exhibit, with of course the Gutenberg bible on display, but also, much to my surprise the journal of Ernest Hemmingway, in which he wrote his acceptance speech for the Nobel prize he won. Literature of course… duh… This is a library you won’t forget easily. The thing that struck me most was that in the main hall….. surrounded by tons of books, everyone…. and I mean EVERYONE… was sitting behind a computer screen!!! What’s wrong with a nice leatherbound saddlestitched book????
Left after an hour or so, grabbed a roastbeef sandwich… for the dutch readers… this is roastbeef with some bread wrapped around it. Which I ate in the park. A guy bummed me out of 5 dollars saying he was a veteran… oh well… glad to help. Signs in the park said I couldn’t smoke. I should smell the flowers…. what friggin’ flowers???? All I smelt was the exhaust fumes from the gazillion cars in town. But okay I didn’t light up.
Later that day the I-man and I met up, bought some dvd’s which I was to burn with his latest Holland-America show, so the band would know what to expect. Went down to the cigar store to see if the lighter had a faster way of getting fixed, other than 5 weeks… alas…
Back on the terrace the neighboring building had a guy fixing stuff. His wrench fell on the terrace. Nimble mynx as the I-man is, it only took him 12 throws to get that wrench back up 3 floors. What a hoot. And now I have to check my little entries in facebook to see what else was going on that day or the days following. I will be back with more.

Love to all
Miss D (as I am officially now called by anyone under 15 years of age)

and live continues in the big “fruit” october 4th

I slept in, or out, or late….. Made plans to meet up with Mark. He was suppposed to come up, but I was down in the bar, watched him walk by, so knocked on the window and we sat for a while, sipping a wine and beer. This afternoon was dedicated to visiting the Apple store. Not the one on 5th. avenue which is crowded by tourists. Mark knew there was another one on Broadway and 63rd. street. Less crowded, just as good. We went downstairs in the glass cube to get a lovely cover for the iPad and then had the airMac and iPad2 and the new phone explained to us. I was tempted by the notebook, but hey I had to choose. My iPhone works perfectly fine… it actually makes calls…. so I was not interested in a new phone. Besides it’s tough to get it simlock free in order to use it at home. We checked prices… they will go for 100$ next week, but it will cost like 400$ extra to get it simlock free. That’s the iphone 4!!!! Ridiculous. The iphone 5 was not out yet……. So I went to look for the ipad 2. only and only because it has the camera. Now I can skype on my iPad.!!!!! Of course I had aid over and over that I didn’t need the iPad2…. but hey.. when in that la la land… one is tempted. So sure enough I’m now the proud owner of a new gadget!! Little did we anticipate that the founder of Apple would pass on the next day.

With purchases in hand, Mark and I wanted to walk back to the Sushi place we like, but ended up taking a cab. BAD choice…. rush hour NYC is a zoo!!! Top that of with traffic cops taking over from the stoplights… madhouse!!! But we made it and had a fantastic Sushi dinner!!!  Mark had to leave around 7 pm to meet up with Inga and their friends visiting from Poland.
I didn’t mind… I had a new toy to play with… Later that evening, got hungry. Sushi does that to you, so I went down to the bar and sure enough, I was just in time to order a thin crusted pizza and a drink. Met up with the dutch lady I’d met a few days before so we caught up on the latest and had a great late night at the bar. Sheesh, it’s been ages since they turn on the harsh headlights in the bar and stand in the corner with coats over their arms, waiting for the guests to friggin’ leave… haha… I spent the rest of the evening/night getting the damned ipad2 to work….

more later folks

honey I’m Home, october 3rd

Some days have past since I last posted new news… (that’s an oximoron or whatever it’s called overhere….. haha). Needless to say I have been reeling from my birthday fest…. but then the next day my lovely friend Ian was going to visit me. He’s busy directing shows..and rehearsals…and playing the xylophone… of course.. yet there he was at 4 pm. in a wonderful outfit, downstairs at the desk asking for miss denise notermans… that’s me!! I had just gone downstairs to my wonderful bar staff to get another bottle of excellent Barolo 2003!!!! So I hooked my arm in his and took the I-man upstairs to my humble abode… Lots of ooh’s and aah’s, while checking out the place and getting reaquainted. It was extremely pleasant… to say the least.. but since this is a public forum, I shall not get into details… haha… people who know me… and there’s lots of you out there, can vividly imagine how that went about 😉 I got a lovely present of gold-tipped multi coloured smokes…. they are exquisite!!!!

So my monday was fanfuckintastic. Before my re-meet with the I-man I walked, yes, walked, to the public library of NYC. It’s an amazing, truly magnificent, building. I walked down 5th avenue and never even glanced at all the 5th. avenue stores. I’m not in need of anything they sell.. ;-). Snort…

The library was fantastic…. I saw it once in a movie… (duh)… but in reality it was way more impressive. I soon found myself lost in all the corridors and halls and whatnots… The most remarkable however was, that the people there, surrounded by millions!!! yes millions of books, microfiches and all such, were all sitting behind a computer terminal… ARGH!!! One can do that at home, right??? when you are surrounded by the most famous first editions, the Gutenberg bible just to name a few… WHY DON’T THEY READ THE FRIGGIN’ BOOKS?? It was amazing,… Anyhow, walked around, majorly impressed with what I saw, took my pictures and studied the special exhibit on display. Read the Nobel price speech of Ernest Hemmingway, one of my favorite writers…..

Afterward found a great deli, where I bought a roastbeef sandwich. Now for the dutch amongst us….. this is like a pound of meat with some bread on both sides. In holland this would cost a fortune… and considered over the top… here I paid only
$ 7,00, a bargain which we netherlanders love. Ate it in the park after donating money towards a “veteran”. Again as said the meet with the I-man was wonderful!! After our initial ritual of getting back together, and since my appartment here is such a great place, we decided to stay in and have dinner in the room. We dressed in our bathrobes (yes we were dressed slightly casual an hour earlier) and ordered food. I crancked up the heating…. the man loves warmth…. and even turned on the fake fireplace. In the background the Bose system was trying to please our ears.
Dinner consisted of  a thin crusted pizza and an original club sandwich, which we shared…. it was truly lovely sitting there in the heat with the robes on. A night to remember. The rest of the evening left me with a big shiteating grin on my face.. and that’s all I’m going to say.

Birthdays are fun

I just got home…. yeah, I call this place home… from a truly wonderful birthday afternoon/night…  after a quiet 2 hours in my apartment, Mark and Inga knocked on my door. Meanwhile the maitre ‘D had sent up some nice chilled white wine and great red. I was ready to entertain..<snort>.. Got some great pressies from them. A puzzle straw that I won’t even try explaining on this board, it would take to long, and a great umbrella with the sky painted on the inside… Really amazing. While sipping wine and catching up, Max and Laura called saying they were on their way, but got stuck in traffic… guess what? There was this big POLISH parade going on on 5th. Ave…. lol…Our street was even closed up by an overzealous traffic cop. Gosh they do feel important with all that gear hanging from their belt and a whistle in their mouth. Hysterical. So William, the doorman, helped her out with his whistle, but promised he would take care of Max and Laura as soon as they’d get there. Sure enough, not much later they showed up and were taken care off.  It was great to see Max again and finally meet his wonderful wife! She’s a hoot! And can hold her liquor. Always good in my books… She had made me the most beautiful tea box from wood. HOMEMADE!!!! I was very impressed, its for all my tealoving friends back home 🙂

We spent  2 hours in my appartment and out on the terrace. The weather still being great. (b.t.w I found my parasol in the corner of the terrace this morning… I guess it flew out )..  After our initial meet and greet and cocktails, we walked.. YES YES you read correctly, we walked to Fiorello’s… 63rd. and Broadway. A favorite I was introduced to some years ago by John and Diane. Thank goodness I made reservations because the place was packed when we got there. It thinned out a little after an hour or so. Maybe people going to the ballet…(no opera this night). We had a fantastic dinner, lots of laughs and to top it off, I had a birthday cheesecake with a burning candle. (which I  blew out with one nostril) rotflmao…  famous also is the buckets of real cream and chocolate mousse. Yummm… We taxied back home, except for Max, he didn’t fit in the taxi, so he ran. Picked up their car, had some sanitary issues resolved and drove to Dangerfields. Now I’ve heard from insiders that it’s “a toilet”… well what can I say. It was better than I expected… but the crowd was tough!!! Lots of tourists who didn’t get most of the jokes. Poor Max had to work hard up on that stage. But hey… we liked it!! I think he loves the dutch audience way more now.. <grin>

Everyone went on their merry way afterwards. Inga, Mark and I shared a cab to the hotel and now I’m chillaxing…… Tomorrow a lazy kind of day with maybe a visit to the library and later on……. a visit from … oh c’mon you know who.. 🙂

More later friends. I had a super birthday!!!!!!!!!! Thanks everyone for the congrats on facebook, mail and other means of correspondence. I am a blessed 55 yo.

ps if possible I’ll try to upload some pix

fall 2011

okay so today all of you sing happy birthday…haha.. Just kidding. I have received so many wishes and even flowers and chocolaters…add to that the gorgeous weather and my gorgeous suite with terrace…. It’s a truly great birthday.
The flight over on friday was a breeze. Arrived half an hour early, but alas…. Immigration took 2 friggin hours… Sigh… Standing in line with screaming kids and many veiled people that came on an Egypt air flight… Hm…
Thank god the limo waited for me and I checked into the Warwick around 6 pm. Was welcomed like the long lost friend. Very nice. Smart too of course, but still it felt good. My first room was great but I had to make my hourly smoke trip downstairs and stand in the pouring rain… So the next day I moved up… Literally. Had a great time at the bar, always remembering Pat’s famous advice… Go down and mingle… Nice Dutch people on business trip and later 2 ozzies from Sydney…
Needless to say, evening one ended with a ceasar salad and a dry martini.. Or two…three…floor

Okay ready for party, dinner and the comedy show…

Later my friends

2011 cruise part.. geen idee

Lieve allemaal…
Cadiz is mooi.
